I have long argued against the use of a standardized test for graduation requirements and to reward/punish districts for their students' scores. Teaching to the test is never the answer.
Students need holistic approaches to their education. Teach the standards in creative, project-based learning units that help students beyond the test. They will learn and retain so much more and become happier and more confident individuals in the process.
